Brownie Recipe

Ingredients for Brownie Recipe:

2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
½ cup shortening
½ cup butter
1 cup strong coffee
¼ cup dark cocoa
½ cup buttermilk (or sour milk)
2 eggs
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla

Combine the flour and the sugar. In a saucepan, combine butter, shortening, coffee and cocoa. You can use 1 cup of butter if you do not like the shortening. Stir and heat to boiling. Pour boiling mixture over flour and sugar in the bowl. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into well buttered jelly roll pan (17.5 x 11 ) . Bake at 400F until middle is firm to touch ( less than an hour 45-50 minutes).

Frosting :

½ cup butter or margarine 2 tbsp dark cocoa 1 cup milk 3 ½ cups icing sugar 1 tsp vanilla

In a saucepan combine butter, cocoa and milk. Bring to boil stirring constantly. Add the sugar and vanilla. Stir well. Pour warm frosting over the brownies as soon as you take them out of the oven. For the holiday season you can add crushed candy cane for color.
